A gingery sort of season!

Making cookies with the kids this holiday season!

Let’s take a little time over the holidays and bake some cookies with the little ones. It is so easy  to buy the store made cookies but Christmas would not be the same in our house if you did not smell the warm flavours of gingerbread cookies that the girls and I bake together!

This is a great way to teach the kids how to bake and how to source local products to use over the holiday season.  You can make cookies that are healthier when made with locally milled spelt flours and organic shortening, farm fresh eggs and precious spices from afar.

Eating local is not about giving up the ginger in your gingerbread cookies, or saying no to the kids when they ask you to buy those sweet, delicious little tangerines that are now at their best. Eating local is about knowing the importance of buying locally produced, fresh, frozen, preserved or prepared foods. You can accomplish this by simply living in-season and revolving your food purchases around local first.

We as a society are always too busy, seeking ways to simplify our lives, but why simplify them to the point where we do less and less every year, especially with our kids?

I often find that doing more gives us more in return. More time with the kids and focusing on eating local, healthy, sustainable is the way things should be. Baked home-made from our kitchen to yours!

Thank you all for your support in 2012! A big thank you to everyone who purchased freshalicious, follows my blog and are living better today by choosing to eat local, organic and support local farms in their community.

All the best to you and your family over the holidays!
