A healthy lifestyle for 2014!

January 6th, 2014

Most of us have been fortunate to have adorable grandparents that have lived a long and reasonably healthy life. Those who are in their mid 40’s and older it seems. A good part of what they did is written in this fantastic article my friend Jim recently shared.  The article focuses on food allergies, something our family lives with everyday, but also focuses on the freshalicious® lifestyle.

They seemed to live a simpler life, made better choices around diet and exercise and lived without the food stresses we have today. Eating seasonally and well balanced meals cooked at home makes a huge difference in ones health. Not many worried about eating gluten-free, dairy-free, vegetarian or vegan. There was no need, there was balance and or availability.

Our grandparents were fortunate enough not to be bombarded with GMO’s and the increased use of pesticides, antibiotics and chemicals that come with mass food production. They ate what was produced locally. Let’s not forget about how the North American diet has drastically changed and now includes oodles of fats, sugar, starches, preservatives, food colours and created a fast food environment we cannot seem to get away from. Opps! And far less fresh fruits and vegetables.

We can live long and healthy lives if we look inside our homes for the answers. Ask yourself. What are we eating? How can I simplify my cooking to accommodate fresh, seasonal ingredients? How can I create inclusive meals for the whole family so no one is left out?

Answer. Live and eat like our grandparents did.

There  is enough seasonal vegetables to get us into spring thankfully.

We have at our fingertips barley, wheat, spelt and legumes that are grown and produced right in our own backyard. And do not forget about the organic, antibiotic free,  locally raised poultry, beef, lamb and pork that is available all year long.

Eat well by choosing to eat with your longevity in mind.

One healthy body=one healthy life.
