My passion is to simplify “eating local” and to get you in touch with as many  local healthy food resources through our freshalicious freeway!  You can join for free today on the freeway landing page!  Eating healthy is a lifestyle that takes time to bring into your everyday hectic life. Why not make your spring different this year and connect with your local farmer, farmers’ market and or buy direct off the farm? You can also try shopping at a local grocery store that is supporting local food and giving you the opportunity to purchase fresh, local organic food. Try following my eat local tips below when shopping for healthy food for your family. Have fun with the kids and make buying fresh, local and healthy a part of your daily adventures!

Stacey’s  5 Simple Tips to “Eat Local” Today

1. Eat seasonal produce grown as close to home as possible, squash, onions, garlic, cucumbers, sprouts and more!

2. Flash Frozen Food is as good or better than fresh and often packed with all the nutrients of fresh.

3. Look for locally canned tomatoes, fruit, sauces and preserves- local just tastes better!

4. Stock up on locally grown dried beans, lentils, whole grain pasta wild rice.

5. Simplify your recipes and try cooking the day before so there is always something good to eat after a long day at the office!

I myself tend to not buy food based on it’s cost. However if I do see  staples (that have some shelf life, like lentils, beans and flour for example) I will buy  extra so I can use the savings  to buy the better produce, meats and poultry that I like. I really enjoy eating organic meats, locally raised chickens and fresh eggs off the farm.Bert’s Lamb is grown by my local farmer also tastes better than imported lamb form overseas. Keep an eye on honey these days, some of the big commercial brands are blending honey form Argentina….my local honey, Leitch’s Honey is truly local and tastes great! One important thing to remember when buying food for your family. Keep your food purchases real, know where it comes from, buy food in it’s natural form, unprocessed and as local as possible!
